Advocacy

Your voice at the State House

The Society is the only organization in South Carolina that advocates expressly for anesthesiology. We carry a physician's perspective into every decision about how anesthesia care is delivered.

Current priorities

What we are working on

The Society's advocacy runs along three lines: the laws written at the General Assembly, the evidence that informs them, and the regulators and payers who put them into practice.

At the State House

Patient safety in state law

We advance legislation that keeps physician-led, patient-centered anesthesia care the standard in South Carolina, and we track every bill that touches how anesthesia is delivered.

Evidence

Patient safety research

We ground our advocacy in the peer-reviewed record on anesthesia outcomes, and we bring that evidence to legislators and regulators who shape care in our state.

Federal and regulatory

The rules behind the law

Laws are put into practice by regulators and payers. We engage the agencies and insurers whose decisions affect your practice and your patients, from licensing to reimbursement.

In the State House

Bills the Society is tracking

The General Assembly meets in two-year sessions; a bill not passed by the close of the second year carries no further. The Society follows every measure that touches how anesthesia is delivered and takes a position on your behalf.

The Society’s bill tracker is updated when the General Assembly is in session.

From the Society’s recent watch list

Lobby Day at the State House

Lobby Day brings physician anesthesiologists to Columbia to meet their legislators face to face. Tell the Society you want to take part and we will make sure your voice is in the room.

Not sure who represents you? Look up your senator and representative before the day, so your meetings land with the people who vote on the measures above.
